5 wonderful acoustic Bob Dylan covers by Ron Sexsmith

Ronald Eldon “Ron” Sexsmith (born 8 January 1964) is a Canadian singer-songwriter from St. Catharines, Ontario.Sexsmith started his own band when he was 14 years old and released recordings of his own material in 1985 at age 21. He was the subject of a 2010 documentary called Love Shines.

We really like Ron Sexsmith here at Alldylan, and Ron really knows how to sing Bob Dylan’s songs. He has a great YouTube series where he covers a lot of artists, he picks songs across a many genres. He has done a lot of Bob Dylan songs, I’ve picked my 5 favourites. Let’s start with the best:

Ron Sexsmith – Is Your Love in Vain:

Ron Sexsmith – Love minus zero (no limits):

Ron Sexsmith – Never gonna be the same:

Ron Sexsmith – John Wesley Harding:

Ron Sexsmith – Your Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go:

  1. Having had the privilege of being a part of the 60s scene in the Village and being a friend of Bobby, Suze, Van Ronk, Paxton, Stookey etc ,(it’s a long list) it’s really cool that we have actual footage of those years to compare with whats going down today. For instance, Bobby’s singing “Love minus zero (no limits)” in a London hotel room in 1965 is still with us on youtube . I just listened to it and saw once again how incredible that young troubadour was. There is now another younger singer on the scene from England named Marcus Foster. He sometimes strikes sparks in his lyrics that have echo’s of those halcyon days. “I Don’t Mind” has some Dylanesque imagery and I, as a certified Old Troubadour, DOB 04\13\1934 have undertaken to interpret “I Don’t Mind” in a new video. Here’s the link. For comparison, Marcus’ version is also on Youtube. listen to both versions and get an old and new view of the troubadour tradition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myEG_BnKCF
