At every point in my life I’ve had to make decisions for what I believed in. Sometimes I’ve ended up hurting people that I’ve loved. Other times I’ve ended up loving people that I never thought I would.
~Bob Dylan (to Karen Hughes, May 21, 1980)
Dylan sends a second postcard to the Whitakers. In it he states that he visits Guthrie four times a week and that he has been playing The Commons

Heading out of New Orleans in the morning, the happy band arrive in Tougaloo, MS by midafternoon. Dylan proceeds to play an unscheduled onehour
set at Tougaloo College. After a brief chat with various civil rights activists, they move on. In 1985, Dylan would recall beginning to write “Mr. Tambourine Man” on leaving New Orleans.

Full concert:
Dylan makes a surprise appearance at a Grateful Dead show. Although he is onstage for some eight songs, he only contributes vocals on two: “Stuck Inside of Mobile,” on which he seems to lose interest halfway through, and a perfunctory encore of “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”

Muscle Shoals Sound Studio
Sheffield, Alabama
12 February 1980
2nd Saved recording session produced by Jerry Wexler & Barry Beckett.
A far more productive session at Muscle Shoals yields three cuts on Saved, including the seemingly improvised opener, “Satisfied Mind,” which is cut
in a single rake, as is “Saved” (although according to Wexler this was one of two songs recur on the 15th). “Solid Rock” is cut in three takes, “What Can I Do for You!” in one, although that Muscle Shoals groove is sadly lacking on both.
