November 9: Happy Birthday Susan Tedeschi – Tedeschi covers Bob Dylan

Susan Tedeschi is an American blues and soul musician known for her singing voice, guitar playing, and stage presence. A multiple Grammy Award nominee, she is a member of the Tedeschi Trucks Band (originally known as “Soul Stew Revival”), which is a conglomeration of her band, her husband Derek Trucks’s The Derek Trucks Band, and other musicians.

She was born 47 years ago today – Happy Birthday!

She has covered a few Dylan songs.

Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, and Dave Brubeck recorded this great interpretation of “Lord Protect My Child”, which was produced by Chris Brubeck and used as the theme song for the human trafficking documentary film, Not My Life.

Susan Tedeschi – Don’t Think Twice – 11/5/14 Santa Rosa, CA:

From Jambase:
“When Bob Dylan saw Susan Tedeschi guest with Phil Lesh & Friends during a 1999 tour featuring the two acts, he was so impressed he invited Tedeschi and her band to open for him a few weeks later. Susan T. and her band wound up opening what turned out to be the final Bob Dylan gig of the millennium on November 20, 1999 at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, DE.

Not only did Tedeschi open for Bob on that fateful night, he wound up inviting her to sit on four songs during his performance. Susan was the Dylan band’s guest on “It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry” and “Highway 61 Revisited” during Bob’s main set as well as versions of “Not Fade Away” and “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35″ in the encore.”
