I am the Man, Thomas
I am the Man
Look at these nail scars
Here in my hand

They drove me up the hill, Thomas
I am the Man
They made me carry the cross, ThomasI am the Man
I am the Man, Thomas
I am the Man
Look at these nail scars
Here in my hand
They crowned my head with thorns, Thomas
I am the Man
They nailed me to the cross, Thomas
I am the Man
I am the Man, Thomas
I am the ManLook at these nail scars
Here in my hand
They pierced me in the side
I am the Man
I died on the cross, Thomas
I am the Man
I am the Man, Thomas
I am the Man
Look at these nails scars
Here in my hand
They buried me in the tomb, Thomas
I am the Man
In three days I rose, Thomas
I am the Man
I am the Man, Thomas
I am the Man
Look at these nails scars
Here in my hand

This a classic Ralph Stanley composition in collaboration with Larry Sparks, a member of The Clinch Mountain Boys, a group long associated with Stanley. Ralph performs it at:

There is some good commentary on this song with references to Dylan’s affinity for it at:

I was there! That’s the old Arena in Milwaukee, it’s like an airplane hangar, so the sound bounced quite a bit.
excellent song, Dylan sang it 59 times as an opener, I saw it for myself three times in 2000, and also three times in 2002
a detailed perfomance history can be found at http://www.notdarkyet.org/man.html
Thanks for the comment Markus & again for your great website.
