October 8: Bob Dylan @ Boston, Massachusetts 1994

bob dylan boston 1994

Fantastic recording, an incredible, jaw-drop performance.. ..not to be missed’. The show kicks off with a blistering fast Jokerman, but Bob doesn’t miss a beat. The words just flow. Following is one of the best ever performances of Señor. More passion than the Street Legal version. I could go on like this about every single song from this magical night. The final summation of this show is that Bob is not merely singing tonight… he’s painting a beautiful portrait. This is the painting that you need to represent 1994.

11 more fine jazz covers of Bob Dylan songs

bobdylan-jazz2_snapseedJazz spans a period of over 100 years and encompasses a range of music from ragtime to the present day, and has proved to be very difficult to define. Jazz makes heavy use of improvisation, polyrhythms, syncopation and the swung note, as well as aspects of European harmony, American popular music, the brass band tradition, and African musical elements such as blue notes and ragtime. The birth of Jazz in the multicultural society of America has led intellectuals from around the world to hail Jazz as “one of America’s original art forms”

Bob Dylan is Jazz at heart, what I mean is that he improvise, he elaborates on his own work. Sometimes his songs are unrecognisable to us. He goes with flow, he goes where the song takes him. He is very “jazzy”, but he does seldom sound like jazz.

I have had quite a few posts with Bob Dylan cover versions and today we collecting 11 more Jazz artists doing their interpretations of his songs.

October 6: Bob Dylan performing Desolation Row @ London, England in 2000 (video)

bob dylan london 2000

They’re selling postcards of the hanging
They’re painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
The circus is in town
Here comes the blind commissioner
They’ve got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other is in his pants
And the riot squad they’re restless
They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
From Desolation Row
