July brought Dylan back to Europe for his now customary summer appearances. Exceptional shows included Prague on July 16th, where the Czech President Vaclav Havel (a long-time admirer of Dylan, Lou Reed and The Rolling Stones among others) joined a large and hugely enthusiastic crowd. Dylan is held in great esteem in some former Eastern bloc countries, his words and music having fuelled hope in the days of oppression. His reception here may have inspired him to start 1995’s shows in the same city.
