September 22: Bob Dylan @ Puyallup, Washington 1998

bob dylan Puyallup 1998

….outdone by an even more remarkable performance by Dylan and his band. From the start, Dylan is fully committed to the performance; immediately establishing himself as the trusted narrator, and delivering one heartfelt rendition after another. He’s so completely immersed in each vocal that it’s a wonder that he’s able to transition down the set-list and engage each song anew. Forget about trying to single out a standout number; each song has the weight of a highlight that ultimately weaves together a full-bodied performance. The depth of this show presents itself in the love songs alone.

September 21: Bob Dylan @ Valby Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark – 1987

Includes a second “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” which is not as impressive as at Basel, and an electric arrangement of “Desolation Row,” which is surprisingly effective, primarily because of some fine playing by Mike Campbell, whose guitar work throughout the rour is something of a revelation.
