Ten years ago, on a cold, dark night
There was someone killed ‘neath the Town hall light
There were few at the scene, but they all agreed
That the man who ran looked a lot like me

She walks these hills in a long black veil
She visits my grave while the night winds wail
Nobody knows, nobody sees
Nobody knows but meThe judge said Son, what’s your alibi
If you were somewhere else, then you won’t have to die
I spoke not a word thought it meant my life
For I’d been in the arms of my best friend’s wife(Refrain)
The scaffold was high and eternity near
She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear
But sometime at night when the cold winds moan
In a long black veil she cries over my bones

I drove 5 hours each way (10 hours roundtrip) to see this show & this song made the tripe worthwhile.
I was at this show. We’d been in Boalsburg the night before and drove all the way home to Parkersburg then back up to Wheeling the next night for this one. The security was SO tight, keeping people out of the isles and general annoyance, and nobody was standing or dancing. It was like watching Dylan crowds circa ’66 England. I do remember when it finally loosened up we went down front with everyone else and there was a tall guy in a leather coat in front of us. I asked if we could stand in front of him since he was taller and he moved over and we hopped the rail. I remember during TUIB Dylan’s knee almost touched the ground during his duck-walk guitar solo, you can hear on the bootleg when this happens – we went wild. There was also no opening act for this show which was weird. Great night!
