Feb 4: Bob Dylan performing One More Cup Of Coffee (Valley Below), London, England – 1990 (Video)

bob dylan london 1990

Your breath is sweet
Your eyes are like two jewels in the sky
Your back is straight, your hair is smooth
On the pillow where you lie
But I don’t sense affection
No gratitude or love
Your loyalty is not to me
But to the stars above

One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee ’fore I go
To the valley below

Hammersmith Odeon
London, England
4 February 1990

  • Bob Dylan (vocal & guitar)
  • G. E. Smith (guitar)
  • Tony Garnier (bass)
  • Christopher Parker (drums)

Your daddy he’s an outlaw
And a wanderer by trade
He’ll teach you how to pick and choose
And how to throw the blade
He oversees his kingdom
So no stranger does intrude
His voice it trembles as he calls out
For another plate of food

One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee ’fore I go
To the valley below

Your sister sees the future
Like your mama and yourself
You’ve never learned to read or write
There’s no books upon your shelf
And your pleasure knows no limits
Your voice is like a meadowlark
But your heart is like an ocean
Mysterious and dark

One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee ’fore I go
To the valley below

  1. Great song and looking forward to the versions on the upcoming bootleg release. Did Dylan ever perform Black Diamond Bay (another fave) during these tours?

  2. To Saunders Dido !
Indeed how does he come up with such poetic stuff ? Note his song “the changing of the guards ” another that out of hundred just comes to mind . It’s pure art ; anytime you listen ( like a great painting ) to song you get another piece that is provoking , you may not have picked up before !

  3. “Your pleasure knows no limits, your voice is like a meadowlark.
But your heart is like an ocean, mysterious and dark.”

How does he KEEP coming up with this stuff? Thanks for posting this great performance (and all the others). I love your website!

  4. i really love the GE smith era, especially with christopher parker, bob was so on fire in the earlier shows,i think it was possibly the most passion he ever put into his shows, that’s really saying something considering the tours he’s done, i think his enthusiasm here is not what it was in the early shows, don’t get me wrong, the “Staying Here With You” boot is one of my all time faves,i feel blessed to have bob in my life!!for nearly 30 years he’s been hugely important to me,he probably means more to me now than at any time!thank you bob!
