Dylan returns to Sony Studios in New York, with Don Was producing, to cut three songs for a possible Elvis Presley tribute CD. The versions of “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” & “Money Honey” are fairly nondescript. However the final vocal take of “Anyway You Want Me (Is How I Will Be)” is really quite spectacular, Dylan delivering one of his most convincing vocals in years.

Sorry, normally I have no problem with his late style of singing, actually I love his act on Tempest, but this here is like some of his worst of the eighties when he was really lost… It is strange because World Gone Wrong, from the same time is beautifully sung, and I think this period gave us also that enticing gig with the orchestra in Japan. So maybe Don Was sure had it in him to push Dylan into the ditch…
