May 9: Bob Dylan San José, California 1992

bob dylan san jose revisited

This is a great sounding audience recording of a loose, fun show. The setlist is amazing.

Perhaps the best of the West-coast shows..[1992]

May 9: Bob Dylan Blind Willie McTell, Manchester 2002

bob dylan manchester 2002

I Seen the arrow on the doorpost
Saying, “This land is condemned
All the way from New Orleans
To New Jerusalem”
Well I traveled through East Texas
Where many martyrs fell
I can tell you one thing
nobody can sing
the-blues-like-Blind-Willie-McTell

Great version of this masterpiece from the 2002 Europe spring tour.

“Blind Willie McTell” was the most interesting performance of the night.
It used to be like that:

“No-one can sing the blues …
like Blind Willie McTell”

but tonight it went like this:

“I’ll tell you one thing …
nobody can sing …
the-blues-like-Blind-Willie-McTell”

The more astute amongst you will have noticed that the third line of this new version is quite long and doesn’t fit too well. Several times I thought the line wouldn’t fit but Bob managed to squeeze it in, just in time.

May 8: Bob Dylan Love Minus Zero/No Limit, London 1965 (Video)

My love she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn’t have to say she’s faithful
Yet she’s true, like ice, like fire
People carry roses
Make promises by the hours
My love she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can’t buy her

This is a near perfect soundboard  recording that is good enough quality to be an official release. The show is amazing and deserves a place in even the smallest Dylan collection.

Classic bootleg concert.

Even if Dylan is “bored” at these spring-65 shows.. he’s still brilliant.

Bob Dylan: 5 great songs recorded in 1974

This is not a “best from 1974” list, just 5 Great songs Bob Dylan recorded in 1974.

Up To Me

In its own way ‘Up To Me’ is as masterful an achievement as ‘Tangled Up In Blue’, using much the same technique to create a well-crafted juxtaposition of ‘what I know to be the truth’ and what I’m projecting’.

First released on  BIOGRAPH, October 28, 1985.

Everything went from bad to worse, money never changed a thing
Death kept followin’, trackin’ us down, at least I heard your bluebird sing
Now somebody’s got to show their hand, time is an enemy
I know you’re long gone, I guess it must be up to me
