His spring 1976 performances, and the live album and one-hour television show (both called Hard Rain) that made those performances available to a broader audience, were unpopular with the public and (at best) ignored by critics and commentators, but they contain some of the very finest performed art Bob Dylan has ever produced.
~Paul Williams (Bob Dylan: Performing Artist, Vol 2: The Middle Years 1974-1986)

In fact, despite a quality performance from Dylan and the band, the finished TV special is very poorly filmed, failing to convey anything of the Rolling Thunder Revue in full flight. Dylan is clearly disappointed and wisely aborts the whole project. He decides to hire his own film crew and shoot a concert at Fort Collins later in the tour.

Clearwater: Great & Fine performances – bad filming
Fort Collins: Incredible performances – Great filming
Ft Collins is the holy grail. That performance of idiot Wind is peak Dylan for me
