Rockefeller concert venue looked different this chilly night in october, the lights were dimmed and the stage was put in the middle of the room, there were draperies and burning candles. It was like coming into someone’s home. I could sense the anticipation from the audience, they were expecting something special. Dixie Chics softly on the speakers.

The concert was mind-blowingly good, I’ve seen Ida Jenshus many times and she is moving in the right directions. I’ve always loved her music, both live and recorded, but the concerts have, for many years, been more “out there” more flowing and more of what Gram Parsons once described as cosmic music. She infuses more Laurel Canyon / American West-Coast into her live sets. The new EP manages to capture some of this on record. Let it go is remarkable, one of the best releases so far in 2014.
And, you have to listen to the whole record in one sitting, it is a complete work of art that deserves your full attention. Fantastic new release from Ida Jenshus. It reminds me of my favorite Emmylou Harris’s Wrecking Ball with hints of Neil Young’s guitar sound from Le Noise, but no straight copy, she does her own thing and she does it very well.
