“There must be some way out of here,” said the joker to the thief
“There’s too much confusion, I can’t get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth”
Arena di Verona
Verona, Italy
29 May 1984
- Bob Dylan (vocal & guitar)
- Mick Taylor (guitar)
- Ian McLagan (keyboards)
- Greg Sutton (bass)
- Colin Allen (drums)
“No reason to get excited,” the thief, he kindly spoke
“There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we’ve been through that, and this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late”All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, tooOutside in the distance a wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl

One of Mick Taylor’s finest moments.. thank you for posting this
recording of Bob Dylan in concert in Verona.
One of the few versions of “Watchtower” that doesn’t echo Hendrix’ masterful reinterpretation. How refreshing! Thanks for posting!
I tend to prefer Dylan’s interpretation to Hendrix’s. This seems like a pretty rocking version and the video is nicely shot. I wish the sound were a little better quality but still nice to listen to. Thanks for this and thanks for all the Dylan entries.
