December 14: Bob Dylan – Mixed Up Confusion (Single) released in 1962

The song was recorded with an electric band on November 14, 1962, during the sessions for The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan but was not used on that album. Instead the song, backed with “Corrina, Corrina” (a different take from the Freewheelin‘ one), a traditional blues song, appeared as Dylan’s first single, released in the United States on December 14, 1962, as Columbia 4-42656.

 According to legend, Dylan wrote the song in a cab on the way to the Columbia studios for the recording session.

“The Buffalo Skinners” (“The Hills of Mexico”) is a traditional American folk song. It tells the story of an 1873 buffalo hunt on the southern plains. According to Fannie Eckstorm, 1873 is correct, as the year that professional buffalo hunters from Dodge City first entered the northern part of the Texas panhandle. It is thought to be based on the song Canaday-I-O.

According to extensive research carried out by Jürgen Kloss in 2010-2012, this song is one of the many variants of John B Freeman’s ‘Buffalo Song’ .
