March 18: Bob Dylan @ Perth Entertainment Center, Australia in 2001 (audio)

Highlights: Bob’s harp playing, improved out of sight since last tour’s tentative efforts. The Wicked Messenger – absolutely searing rendition, I thought Patti’s version was good, but this took it to another level.
Standing in the Doorway, one of my absolute favourites,
starts beautifully and would have been a highlight, but lost it’s way lyrically – oh well! maybe next time. Watchtower and Hwy61 – simply smokin’ Desolation Row and Visions in the one show!

March 18: Bob Dylan – Jokerman, Groningen 1995 (video)

Standing on the waters casting your bread
While the eyes of the idol with the iron head are glowing
Distant ships sailing into the mist
You were born with a snake in both of your fists while a hurricane was blowing
Freedom just around the corner for you
But with the truth so far off, what good will it do?

Jokerman dance to the nightingale tune
Bird fly high by the light of the moon
Oh, oh, oh, Jokerman

March 6: Ben Keith Was Born in 1937 – Here Playing With Bob Dylan on “Wallflower” (audio)

Ben Keith performs at The Cutting Room on July 19, 2007 in New York City

Bennett Keith Schaeufele (March 6, 1937 – July 26, 2010), better known by his stage name Ben Keith, was an American musician and record producer. Known primarily for his work as a pedal steel guitarist with Neil Young, Keith was a fixture of the Nashville country music community in the 1950s and 1960s before working with numerous successful rock, country and pop artists as both a producer and versatile, multi-instrumentalist sideman for over four decades.

Feb 26: Bob Dylan plays Christchurch, New Zealand in 2003 (audio)

bob dylan new zealand 2003

I’m not sure if a live concert can get any better than this one. The
sound quality was excellent, the guitar work of Tony and Larry just
amazing and Bob’s piano work really does add new colour. I feel George is far too busy as a drummer and there were times when both Bob and Tony seemed to be trying to communicate to him how the songs should go. Billy does not have the finesse of Charlie but hopefully he will listen to what is happening and develop. Anni DiFranco referred to Mr Dylan and his killer band, how good would this band be with Garth Hudson on organ?
