The Band 06/23/96
Rockpalast Festival,
Loreley, St. Goarshausen, Germany
===============================

This is from the tour in support of their album, High on the hog. It is one of the last concerts by The Band, they ended the tour in august 1996, and they played a few stand-alone gigs after that. I think this is the last filmed concert by The Band (correct me in the comments if I’m wrong).

Interesting show, good picture and sound, enjoy!

Rick Danko soundstage 1978 (video)

rick_danko

The Rick Danko video is from an edition of Soundstage, an Austin City Limits-type program produced by WTTW Ch. 11, the Chicago PBS affiliate. Rick’s brother Terry Danko was one of the members of the group. Rick did several tunes from his Arista album on the show. There are extended solos on many songs and each song is also presented in an extended version compared to the Arista album. Among them a very soulful and long version of “Sip the Wine”, slowly building to a climax. Rick is in top form, he dances and bounds across the stage in obvious delight.

Set list from Sound Stage 2/23/1978:

Rick Danko introduction/Java Blues
This Wheel’s on Fire
Tired of Waiting
Sweet Romance
Brainwash
Sip the Wine
What a Town

Great set from Rick Danko and his band on Soundstage February 23 1978, what a voice!

The band:
Rick Danko
Terry Danko
Michael DeTemple
Jerry Peterson
Denny Seiwell
Marty Grebb

August 27: Another Self Portrait The Bootleg Series Vol. 10 by Bob Dylan was released in 2013

Unknown

“…one of the most important, coherent and fulfilling Bob Dylan albums ever released.”
– David Fricke (Rolling Stone Magazine)

The Bootleg Series Vol. 10: Another Self Portrait (1969–1971) is an album of unreleased recordings, demo recordings, alternative takes mostly from Bob Dylan’s 1970 albums Self Portrait and New Morning, and a couple of live tracks from the Isle of Wight Festival (1969), released on August 27, 2013. It is the latest addition in the series of official “bootleg” recordings issued by Columbia Records.

Pretty Saro (official video)

The cover is new artwork by Bob Dylan. The liner notes have been written by Greil Marcus, who wrote the original Self Portrait review for Rolling Stone that infamously asked, “What is this shit?”. Also included is an extensive essay from journalist Michael Simmons. The set also contains rare photographs of that era from John Cohen and Al Clayton.

“For fans, this is more than a curiosity, it’s an indispensable addition to the catalog.”
– Thom Jurek (allmusic)

I wrote about what I liked best about this bootleg series release when it came out last year:
