Remarkable show played in remarkable weather. The rain begins to pours down during the full band “The River” and continues for several songs, punctuated with incredible thunder and lightning. A unique “Follow That Dream”. Many other highlights – an Italian story in “Growin’ Up”, the rain sheeting down in “Waitin’ On A Sunny Day”, “The River” and an impromptu “Who’ll Stop The Rain”. Jon Landau plays guitar on “Dancing In The Dark”. First ever performance in Italy of “Follow That Dream”. “Born In The U.S.A.” from the soundcheck is solo acoustic. Released on “Once Upon a Time in Italy” and “San Siro Night” (Crystal Cat). Several DVDs available, including the excellent screenshot “Blood Brothers On A Stormy Night” (brucevideos), plus many others.

“the guy that I always miss. . . . He had so much soul. And he knew all the styles.
I think he’d still be around, if he stayed with me.”

– Bob Dylan (2009)

Documentary: The Mike Bloomfield Story

IN CELEBRATION OF Michael Bloomfield’s 67th birthday anniversary,mikebloomfieldamericanmusic.com offered a video biography of the legendary guitarist, detailing his remarkable career with images, interview clips and music. Created by filmmakers Nick Lerman and Alex Wernquest, and by site-manager David Dann, this three-part narrative begins with Bloomfield as a young, up-and-coming guitarist recording for John Hammond Sr., playing with Bob Dylan and joining the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. It then follows Michael as he creates the Electric Flag and performs to standing ovations at Monterey, records “Super Session” with Al Kooper and then pursues a career playing music on his own terms. Included are excerpts from previously unheard Bloomfield recordings as well as rare and seldom-seen photos of the guitarist.

Muddy Waters - Rollin' Stone - The Golden Anniversary Collection

This is powerful music and belongs in any serious music fan’s library. You can’t own too much Muddy Waters. And even if you bought the Chess Box Set, only a third of these tracks were included. ESSENTIAL
~Steve Vrana (amazon.com review)

Not just an essential historical record of an artist and genre, these are some of the most seminal and inspired blues performances ever recorded.

I guess all songs is folk songs. I never heard no horse sing ’em.
~Big Bill Broonzy

Blues is a natural fact, is something that a fellow lives. If you don’t live it you don’t have it. Young people have forgotten to cry the blues. Now they talk and get lawyers and things.
~Big Bill Broonzy

“Worried Man Blues,” “Hey, Hey” and “How You Want It Done.” From the DVD “A Musical Journey”:

He was known for his rendition of “When Did You Leave Heaven?” which Bob Dylan recorded in 1988, and wrote “Key To The Highway” which Bob Dylan performed at The Edge in September 1995.

Rolling Rootsy Revue 2015 Oslo –  Photo Special

Rolling Rootsy Revue is a touring Americana festival visiting three towns in Norway (and four in Sweden) this June,  Bergen, Oslo and Trondheim.

I was lucky to attend The Rolling Rootsy Revue 2015 in Oslo last night, and what a great collection of artists we were served. Fantastic music for a reasonable price. I send a big thanks to Rootsy Live for bringing this show on the road in Norway. Crossing fingers and hoping it will be an annual event.

Rolling Rootsy Revue 2015

It started with Doug Seegers, a fine start. He is a good storyteller and is very true to his country music roots. I’ve seen him before and he is a good entertainer. It was surprisingly full at the start of “The Revue” and he brought out the smiles in the audience.

Then we got Handsome Family, always fun, and almost always great. I had very high hopes, every time I’ve seen them they’ve been fantastic. I was a bit let-down yesterday, maybe my expectations were too high. It was good but not as good as I know they can be.
