Video of the day: Monica Heldal – Boots of Spanish Leather by Bob Dylan

MH1

Monica Heldal (22) will release her debut album later this fall, but she’s an experienced live artist and have been an artist to look out for a couple of years now. We saw her last year at Bergenfest (the photos are from that show) and we were impressed. She is a very skilled guitar player and she sings with feeling. Check out her music on Youtube and buy her album later this year!

From her Facebook page:
Monica Heldal, in spite of her young age (21) managed to garner both domestic and international attention. With her brilliant and technically advanced guitar playing and alluring voice she has left audiences spellbound in all manner of settings. Her deep-seated love of American country-blues and for the deceased Irish singer, guitarist and songwriter Rory Gallagher led to her being invited to play last year’s ”Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival” in his home town. After many plaudits she was invited back this year and that led to further invitations to play at Notodden, in Oslo, The Netherlands and France.

We have chosen a fine rendition of Bob Dylan’s Boots of Spanish Leather as our Video of the day, enjoy!

My Morning Jacket to tour with Bob Dylan – here covering his songs

Jim James announced some exclusive news during a video interview with Tap Milwaukee Thursday night: My Morning Jacket will be on the road with Bob Dylan this summer.

My Morning Jackets has a long relationship with Dylan’s songs and it will be great to be able to see them on the same bill.

Bob Dylan’s songs have become part of the great American songbook and there are a lot of artists covering his compositions. My Morning Jacket is one of the best and most interesting of the contemporary bands around, and their covers of Dylan are all good, some are great.

In honor of Amnesty International’s 50th anniversary, a number of musical heavyweights came together for a new Bob Dylan cover album.  Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International had a wonderful cover of  “You’re a Big Girl Now” done by My Morning Jacket.

This made me check around to see if My Morning Jacket had done more songs by Dylan and they had.

We really like Norah Jones, we especially like it when she does Country music and of course when she sing the songs of our hero Bob Dylan. We have trawled the web to find some of her great cover versions.

Lets start with a duet, here she sings I Shall Be Released with the man himself, Bob Dylan:
