There are many reasons to put out an EP—a taste an upcoming full-length, finding a way to release a collection of b-sides, covers or other odds and ends.
There are several common threads in the choices we’ve made, you can find them without me pointing out the obvious.
The EP itself can be a variety of things. An 10-track collection or a three song collection… The Ida Jenshus release could be counted as a full album release, and it would have in the Vinyl/LP days. Anyhow, these are the best of 2014:

Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters were, well, sensational at Bergenfest 2014.
I saw around 60 concerts this year (I may get 2-3 more before the end of the year) and here are my list of the 25 best concerts 2014. Already looking forward to great shows in 2015.

When I read about music, I need to listen to the music I read about. A good red wine in the glass, or a good cup of coffee and the music playing in the background. The artists catalogue (and bootlegs) should be available to me, so that when I read about a concert or a record, I can listen to that music when I read. It is not always possible, but very often it is. I need to set the mood.
I don’t look at the year of release when I buy music books, but I do buy interesting new releases.
I’ve plowed through about 30 books about music this year, most of them old books about music history (blues, country or certain albums), these are The Seven Best Music Books of 2014:

Our list has box sets that has audio, film and tv recordings and books. It’s been a good year for box sets.
A treasure that has to be enjoyed in portions, it’s so overwhelming. If you try to take it all in, you’ll be guaranteed to miss some of the gems in this chest. Better sound than on the bootlegs and a lot of songs we hadn’t heard before. I would have put it on the top spot just for Sign on the cross to be honest, that one song is worth the whole set.
